So, you got a new dog. What do you need? What do you do now? Let me save you some time, effort, and repeated trips running out to the store. I tend to prefer Petsmart or Petco. It’s your personal preference of course. But here are some items that you will need (or want) with your new puppy.
- Premium Dog Food (We’re going to talk about nutrition in another post)
- Pressed rawhide treats
- Dog Biscuits
- Soft, chewy treats
- Food and water bowels
- Food Scoop
- Collar or harness
- Leash
- ID Tag
- Pet gate to keep your dog in or out of a specific room
- Crate
- Bed
- Toys
- Housetraining Aids (we’ll go over housetraining in another post as well)
- Stain and odor remover (I recommend Natures Miracle)
- Pooper scooper, or waste bags and holder
- Training Class sign-up
- Shampoo
- Bath wipes
- Brush (we’ll talk about the different kinds in another post)
- Toothbrush/Paste
- Nail Clippers if you are going to clip your dog’s nails yourself
- Grooming appointment for about a month out
- Doggy door if you want one
- Dog Training information
I hope this helps you with your new dog shopping. Not everything is required, for instance, some people don’t allow their dogs rawhide, clip their own dogs nails (I don’t), or want to use a doggie door. I can’t use one, because my cat will follow my dogs outside. Even the electronic ones don’t work in my house. I’m going to figure out a way to do it someday. They love to go outside and just lay in the grass. On occasion I feel like a revolving door with three dogs wanting to go in and out all the time.

Well, at least you are getting exercise, open and shutting the door – that’s a good thing, isn’t it? 🙂

It depends on your perspective. But, yes, exercise is good for you. I’d prefer it be on my terms, the little rascals like to catch me just as I sit down.
