So far we’ve talked about training your dog to do different commands.  We haven’t talked about making a plan on training your dog.

In general it is best not to teach more than two to three commands at once.  Once you teach those two commands continue to practice them ten times per day and add another command.

For Instance

Week 1:

  • Look (25 times per day)
  • Sit (25 times per day)

Week 2:

  • Look (10 times per day)
  • Sit (10 times per day)
  • Down (25 times per day)
  • Come (25 times per day)

Week 3:

  • Look (10 times per day)
  • Sit (10 times per day)
  • Down (10 times per day)
  • Come (10 times per day)
  • Sit Stay (25 times per day)
  • Loose Leash Walking (25 times per day)

And you can continue on from there.  It is important that you continue to practice the old commands as you train your dogs new ones.  Otherwise you end up with a dog who knows what they are currently learning, but forgets what they have already learned.

I am going to continue to post new training commands for you to teach your dog.  Make your own training plan and you will be able to train your dog to be able to do whatever you want them to do.  They can reach whatever level of training you want them to obtain.
